Recently, Huanqiu Hebei Company and Xinjiang Xinkaisheng Company formally signed a technical license and technical service contract for a 50,000 tons/year mixed waste plastic rapid pyrolysis-to-wax demonstration project. This marks the first commercial engineering application of the independently developed mixed waste plastic pyrolysis-to-wax technology by the company after four years of efforts, and is also one of the important achievements of the integrated and coordinated development of Huanqiu Hebei Company and Huanqiu Beijing Company.
1. Technological Breakthrough in Mixed Waste Plastic Pyrolysis-to-Wax
China Huanqiu Contracting & Engineering Corporation (HQC for short) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Petroleum Engineering Corporation Limited, which is under China National Petroleum Corporation (PetroChina). Founded in 1953 and headquartered in Beijing, HQC has 8 regional engineering companies in Hebei, East China, Jilin, Shanghai, Daqing, Xinjiang, Guangdong and other places, and holds controlling stakes in two large-scale construction enterprises, forming an "8+2" group layout.
At the end of 2024, the scientific research project jointly developed by Huanqiu Hebei Company and China University of Petroleum (East China) successfully passed the acceptance inspection of Huanqiu Company. Over the past four years, with the support and help of Beijing Company, the project has gone through the entire process of small-scale test, pilot-scale test and process optimization. It has overcome key technical problems such as mixed waste plastic pretreatment, deep impurity removal, continuous feeding, pyrolysis selectivity control and product refining, and formed a complete set of process packages with independent intellectual property rights.
This technology can convert mixed waste plastics into high-value-added industrial wax products through advanced chemical recycling technology. The landing of this project has promoted the first-set demonstration of wax-making process technology, and provided a specific engineering solution for exploring the large-scale and high-value utilization of solid waste.
2. Market Prospect of Waste Plastic Pyrolysis-to-Wax Technology
The waste plastic pyrolysis-to-wax technology has significant advantages in terms of economy and carbon emission reduction benefits. Studies have shown that compared with the production of traditional petroleum-based products, this technology can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 30%. With the deepening of global attention to sustainable development and green economy, the demand for high-quality and environmentally friendly chemicals is continuously growing.
As a multi-functional chemical, Fischer-Tropsch wax has broad application prospects in lubricating oils, cosmetic raw materials and other fields. By 2030, the global market size of Fischer-Tropsch wax is expected to reach about 16 billion US dollars. As the world's largest country in the recycling and consumption of waste plastics, China occupies a leading position in this market.
The rapid pyrolysis technology adopted in this project can realize the effective conversion of resources and significantly reduce carbon emissions. It is estimated that about 1.5 tons of carbon dioxide emissions can be reduced for each ton of waste plastic processed in the pyrolysis process.
