Coca Cola partners with Cirklo to build PET recycling plant, expected to start production in November

Recently, Cirklo, one of Brazil's largest PET material recyclers, and Solar Coca Cola, one of the largest manufacturers under Coca Cola Brazil Systems, announced that a PET bottle recycling plant built by both parties in the Amazon region will soon be put into use.

The total investment of the project is as high as 20 million Brazilian reals (approximately 26 million RMB), and the main building of the factory has been successfully completed, officially entering the critical stage of equipment installation and commissioning. According to the plan, the factory will be put into operation in November 2025, with a monthly processing and conversion capacity of up to 1000 tons of PET material.

This measure is an important part of Cirklo's expansion strategy. As an industry leader, Cirklo has successfully processed over 3 billion PET beverage bottles in 2024 and expects strong business growth in the coming years. Solar Coca Cola will ensure a stable supply of PET bottles for this new factory, thus creating a true "bottle to bottle" closed-loop cycle - where discarded packaging will be revitalized and made into brand new beverage bottles.

Recycling process and social benefits

The operation of this factory will greatly activate the local recycling industry chain. The recycled materials mainly come from local cooperatives and recycling merchants, and these materials will be preliminarily sorted and processed locally in the state of Para, processed into recycled PET fragments. Subsequently, these fragments will be transported to Cirklo's specialized granulation factory for the production of 100% recycled PET packaging. Mr. Irineu Bueno Barbosa, CEO of Cirklo, stated that this is the company's fourth industrial base.

Solar Coca Cola has set ambitious sustainability goals: by 2025, the total amount of plastic recycled from the market will be equivalent to the total amount of plastic sold through product packaging. This goal will be achieved through its leadership of the "Recicola Solar" project.

Mr. Fabio Aselby, Director of External Relations at Solar, presented past achievements with data: "Since 2021, we have sent approximately 50000 tons of PET material for recycling, with 16000 tons in 2024 alone. Our goal is to leverage Cirklo's new factory in Ananindeva to further expand this impact, consolidate the circular economy model, reduce environmental footprint, and create more income for the local community
